Gort is
excellently located on the
N18. It is c. 18 miles from Ennis, c. 33 miles from Shannon airport, c.
42 miles from Limerick city and c. 23 miles from Galway city. And with
the new road set to be in place by 2011 commuting times will be
reduced.
Schools
Primary
Schools: There is a primary school in Gort town but there is also a
number of primary schools within a 5 mile radius of the town.
Second Level Schools: Gort Community School is within walking distance
of the town centre. Other second level schools accessible are Seamount
College in Kinvara which is an all girls school or Flannans College in
Ennis.
Creche / Montessori: There are numerous childcare facilities available
in the town of Gort
Local Amenities
Gort offers a
host of diversity to pass the time. It is ideally located to explore
the Burren and South Galway. Local places of interest include the
infamous Coole Park (Nature Reserve and Heritage Centre) formally the
home of Lady Gregory; Thoor Ballylee (Formally the home of the poet W B
Yeats) and a small museum at Kiltartan Old School, the Gregory Museum.
The important monastic settlement of Kilmacduagh (one of the oldest in
Europe) is c. 5 miles away. Gort offers a host of pubs and restaurants
throughout the town. The local GAA club will offer the opportunity for
people to compete in local hurling matches. The community centre
provides facilities for indoor soccer, bad minting, basket ball and a
gym.
